WHAT IS THIS EXPO ABOUT & WHY DOES THIS EXPO EXIST?

With almost a century of misinformation about Cannabis and hemp behind us, we established the HHI Expo to bring all the research, science, innovation, products, industries and uses of hemp together under one roof. Anyone interested in the many uses and benefits of this incredible and versatile plant - be it as a food source, textile, medicine or carbon negative building material – can experience and learn about it first-hand at the expo.

IS HEMP ILLEGAL IN AUSTRALIA?

Not anymore! As of November 12 2017, changes to the Food Standards Code came into effect in Australia, legalising the growth and sale of low-THC hemp seed as a food.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CANNABIS AND HEMP?

Misinformation has clouded the distinction between Cannabis and  Hemp, but it’s important to be clear that Cannabis and Hemp are not the same thing.

Cannabis is a family of plants that contains a variety of different compounds called Cannabinoids. The most dominant of these are Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD). THC is the active compound in certain strains of the plant which induces psychoactive effects, while CBD doesn’t contain any psychoactive properties.

Hemp, while rich in CBD, contains a very low concentration of THC (0.3% or less) and is used for industrial purposes – being capable of producing hundreds of crucial resources such as oils, food products, biofuel, paper, textiles, building materials and more.

With the fast-growing popularity of CBD across the globe, hemp is also used to produce a wide variety of THC-free CBD products.

WHAT IS HEMP USED FOR?

Hemp is a natural and sustainable alternative that is used in hundreds of different products! From food and beverages, to skin care, building products and clothing, hemp is swiftly becoming the natural way to live worldwide. The benefits are massive - come along to the Expo to learn more!

Food Hempire

In 2019, HHI Expo is broadening it’s taste buds, welcoming the start of the Food Hempire. With hemp ice-cream, coffee, smoothies, pastries, bakery goods, yiros, street food and more, this specialised food hub has something for everyone. Vegans and Vegetarians will be in heaven with a range of food options to satisfy their cravings.

Cannabis Access Clinics

Cannabis Access Clinics (CAC) are focussed on helping doctors and patients navigate the regulatory pathway for prescribing medicinal cannabis products in Australia and New Zealand.

Cannabis Access Clinics work closely with patients who suffer from indications for which there is some evidence that medicinal cannabis therapies may be beneficial. They work in accordance with TGA Guidance documents on medicinal cannabis, consulting patients with indications including Chronic Pain (including Cancer Pain), Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting in cancer (CINV), Multiple Sclerosis, Epilepsy, HIV Aids and others.

At the 2019 HHI Expo, Cannabis Access Clinics are offering a limited amount of one-on-one 15 min appointments with the clinic to determine the eligibility of a patient as to whether they be a good candidate to get TGA approval for medicinal cannabis (these appointments do not allow for any onsite prescriptions only possible eligibility). These appointments cost $25 and run for 15 minutes.

You can book these sessions when purchasing your tickets. Be quick as there are very limited spots!
